Haunted Evenings are proud to gain overnight entry to this very historic Northampton building that has some strange paranormal activity reported…….
History of the Abington Manor House (Museum)
Abington Manor House, located within Abington Park, Northampton, dates back over 500 years . Having been a former residential property for many years, the oldest parts of the original structure that remain today are the Great Hall and Oak Room which date back to 1530, when records show it was owned by the Barnard family.
In 1642, John Barnard married the granddaughter of Shakespeare (Elizabeth Nash), Shakespeare’s last surviving descendent and, on the upper floor a former bedroom is now dedicated to the life and works of William Shakespeare.
In 1669, vast parts of the original Manor House were demolished to make way for a larger, more lavish extension, retaining of course, the Great Hall and Oak Room.
In 1845, Abington Manor was sold to a Londoner who leased out the Manor to Dr Octavius Pritchard who used the property as a mental asylum. It remained as an asylum until 1892. The property further exchanged hands in 1897 when it was given to the people of Northampton. It has remained as a museum until present day
Paranormal activity at Abington Museum….
This former Asylum has rarely been investigated over recent years but it’s little wonder that it’s a paranormal place of interest due to its varied past. Courtesy of the museum staff, some of the accounts of strange occurrences are as follows; Footsteps have been heard in the attic, rose perfume odours smelt on the top floor , high pitched screams of a female heard by the staff at night and by the staircase, several museum staff have heard them creak as if someone was walking down them towards the kitchen!.
Join Haunted Evenings on an overnight ghost hunt which will take you into all areas of this atmospheric location with its ongoing maze of rooms to explore in the dark. We’ll be splitting you off into small groups to see what you can unearth. Will you experience the many encounters of the paranormal that other visitors before you have experienced?. Event review / Spoiler!
It was great to be back out again investigating last night and we were joined by a fabulous bunch of masked up and raring to go guests!
Our home for the (Haunted) evening was Abington House Museum, once an old Manor dating back to the 1500’s, by the late Victorian era it was used as the city’s mental asylum. It’s historic layers certainly lend itself nicely for a paranormal gathering, albeit a socially distanced gathering of course!
The investigation brought together a line of subtle yet constant flow of unexplained/paranormal activity for all groups, many EVP’s were captured as well as equipment triggering and personal experiences reported.
H I G H L I G H T S
One member had her hair touched in the upper east area and knocking could be heard by all the group in the back room. A female mental patient and a guy that worked there came through on the human pendulum.
EVP captured in the Oakroom saying hello. EVP “get out of here” caught in upper east area.
During another pendulum – 4 out of 6 ladies moved, some responses to early questions indicated young boy under 12, linked to a guest on another group. Lot of K2 flashes up to the third light which confirmed spirit standing by the table, the spirit confirmed they lived and died there.
During a trigger vigil, one guest felt sick in several areas. Music box went off in two separate places, vibe pod flashed and quite a few k2 spikes. During one EVP session, we got a clear response to the question asking how many women were in the room- the response heard on playback was a clear 7, confirming they were not alone!
A few cold breezes reported by guests during a few of the vigils which were unexplainable.
During a dowsing rod experiment, activity suggested the location of a spirits. EVP’s were strong and constant with a class A “Francis Drake” heard on playback in the Upper West quarters. Spirit of a woman took a liking to the guest.s Guest reported feeling pain on the neck when that spirit was asked to touch somebody, like a burning feeling.
First vigil, music box and vibe pod triggering, guest picked up the name Steven or Gregory. Shouty EVP. Second vigil, lots of EVPs, number 53 sounds like an elderly gentleman, that one was caught in the small room with the soldiers names on the wall. Third vigil, quite quiet, few muffled EVPs, then got shouted which startled a few of the guests! (good)!!
To all the guests who attended last night, on behalf of the team, thank you for being so involved with the vigils, it was a real pleasure to investigate with you all.
A grade I listed 15th century manor house situated in Abington Park (Northampton) was our “home” for the evening and it’s fair to say we would move in permanently if we could! A fantastic building with an abundance of rooms to investigate, layered in history, from once a grand Manor to becoming a mental institution in the 1800’s, to its present day use as a museum.
Activity seemed to be apparent in all areas we investigated and some fascinating paranormal evidence was reported after each vigil conducted. Here are some of last nights findings :
Ouija board (Oak Panel Room + adjacent room):
Tim, youngest in his family of 7 came through on the ouija board. Spelt out H-I. Next door, simultaneously a group got Lim and the letters H-I. Tim had connections to World War 1.
Alfred 12 came through on the board, connected to Binny (25) who we believe both had connections to a spirit named George. Every time George was mentioned, the glass stopped suggesting George had caused both a wrong doing.
Eugenie, aged 9 also came through during a session as well as a personal connection for one of the guests.
East Wing :
Our spiritual team members picked up on the name Allan, Jessica (7 or 8 years old) and Elizabeth Bardon with a further surname Nee picked up on a later vigil. Names confirmed to be connected to the building. Another team member independently picked up on the same female spirit and was able to sketch out a chilling portrait of her.
An angry spirit sensed along the East Wing corridor with an EVP which we believe says “Yes I am”.
A guest felt her jumper was tugged from behind and felt shivers. Headaches felt in the side room near to the East Wing by 2 seperate people (unbeknownst to each other).
Music box triggered suggesting an unexplained movement detected.
A Child came through during one of the human pendulums who was shot. In a later pendulum a John Watkins (or Hopkins) was sensed by the team member and through the pendulum, discovered to have wartime connections, poisoned 1859 (aged 25-30)
A cabinet door in the Oak Panel room opened of its own accord and could not be replicated by walking passed.
2 guests who braved going off on their own came swiftly back after hearing a heavy breath. Team member went back with them and connected with a Chaplin or Vicar who he sensed was grounded at the Manor House in his quest to help the sick.
I’m sure lots have been missed but it’s fair to say we certainly came away buzzing from such a paranormally filled night!
Thank you to all the guests who attended last night, you were all such a pleasure to investigate alongside and we’re thrilled you chose to investigate with Haunted Evenings.
