Inveraray Jail Ghost Hunts Scotland
Join Haunted Evenings for a night of intense ghost hunting at one of Scotland’s most haunted hidden gems! Inveraray Jail on the banks of Loch Fyne, Argyll, was an 18th Century prison and courthouse, seeing thousands through it’s doors for trial and punishment. Life at the Jail would have been horrific, brutal and very isolating with many inmates set to work long repetitive days as hard punishment. With such an intense historic past, it’s little wonder that Inveraray Jail has become known for being a paranormal hotspot. Dare you venture out after-dark with the team to experience for yourself who still haunts within these once terrifying prison walls?.
Ghost Hunting at Inveraray Jail!
Your overnight ghost hunt will see you split down into small groups to investigate the three separate buildings on-site at Inveraray Jail – the courthouse where many would have received their brutal sentencing, the Old Prison, small cramped conditions with mixed sex incarceration and the New Prison, built around 1840 to improve the conditions of the original facilities. With 3 distinct areas to break off into you will take part in a variety of new and old experiments to see what can be experienced. Many have reported feeling uneasy in cell 10 and in the old cook house / kitchen area. Previous visitors have felt ill whilst on location with many wishing to leave as soon as possible. Your team will be setting up some unique activities and experiments for you take part in, from glass divination, to trigger vigils and hi-tech experiments. Guests brave enough will also have the opportunity to take equipment off and go it alone…..This site is a fascinating place historically and is rarely investigated. What will you experience at Inveraray Jail on your Haunted Evening?

869 miles added to the clock and finally home after a whirlwind trip to our most northerly venue, it’s time to review the evidence from last nights incredible Haunted Evening up at Inveraray Jail in Scotland! Where to start!??
EVP’s were plentiful last night, so much so, more time (and sleep) is likely needed to make sure none are missed, with several muffled “help me’s”, “get outs” and a possible name “Peter” I’m spoiled for choice as to which to showcase! However! One phenomenal voice capture to share for now occurred during vigil 1 (group 1) where a guest can be heard asking if the spirit would prefer to speak to a male rather than a female. The response is mind-blowing “I don’t like women”!!!! Take a listen….

EVP – INVERARAY JAIL 17.08.19 EVP captured in a cell within the main prison block during vigil 1, group 1 Guest : “Hi, I was just wondering whether you prefer to speak to a male, rather than a female?” *** EVP Spirit response @ 10 secs “I don’t like women” *** #inverarayjail #evp #hauntedevenings #ghost #ghosthunting #paranormal
Our investigation covered every inch of the jail, with 2 prison blocks and the court house to separate off into. Unaccountable footsteps were heard in the courtroom where ouija board vigils took place and a possible Peter (child spirit) was connected with. In the old cell block, head / neck pains were experienced by at least 3 people (during different group vigils), K2’s, vibe pods and rempods were triggered throughout the night (during different group vigils), including one epic moment when 3 emf meters, that were lined up along the prison floor, lit up together at the same time as a motion detector activated.
Admittedly, like our stint in Scotland, the review is somewhat short but sweet but after 7 hours on the road its definitely time for last nights team to put our feet up! Thank you to every single guest who attended last night, we hope you enjoyed the investigation even just half as much as we did, it was lovely to meet you all, your input was spot on! We love Inveraray Jail and are already planning our next trip… the journey and the ghostly experiences are so worth it!
Sitting directly on the shores of Loch Fyn writing this review, with the Sunday morning sun beating down, the whole panoramic view in front of me is beyond words – it’s breathtaking, peaceful and certainly not the obvious place to be writing about for Haunted Evenings! To my immediate left is an 1800’s former prison with the same Loch views to die for (albeit those same views are seen through iron bars). Inveraray Jail may well be isolated but seems misplaced in such a beauty spot – what an incredible setting!
Inside are 2 main prison blocks, the earliest, laid out over 2 floors with several cells to investigate, provided last nights guests with activity on the ouija boards. All groups were able to experience some contact from the other side, from intense personal moments with lost loved ones to spirit energies connected to the building. A child called Jo for one group and a “Peggy” for another were just 2 names that came to light. An EVP was also captured which says “get f**king out of here” with a Scottish accent!
Over in the larger, slightly newer prison block (built in the 1840’s), voices were the main feature during the explore with kit vigils. Down in a bottom cell, a clear “help me” was captured on our recorder. Some 4 hours or so later, a separate team picked up a “help” in the very same cell (unbeknownst to them at the time as to what was captured earlier). A Henry was also picked up by 2 separate groups in the same prison block and psychometrist Stu picked up on a shadowy character called James Bane who Stu detected was imprisoned for sheep stealing. On returning to the jail this morning to check records, his name and crime have both been verified by Jail staff/electronic jail records. (EVP’s to be posted in the comments below). A growl was also picked up in the attic. Was that James Bane?
Dowsing rod experiments alongside trigger objects were designated for the court room. Placed amongst the many unpleasant and damn right eerie mannequins, energy was detected through equipment triggering and through the rods. You could almost hear a pin drop inside the court room, so a shout saying “get out” was a little unnerving on playback from our voice recorder!
Inveraray Jail provided all our guests with activity of various degrees throughout the night and the time at this unique jail flew by!
What a wonderful location to end this first half of 2018 and what wonderful guests to work alongside last night, thanks everyone!. This investigation will not be one we’ll forget in a hurry and it won’t be long until we return. Inveraray Jail and it’s stunning surroundings are a must to revisit! See you soon Inveraray!
