History of Tutbury Castle
With sweeping views over both Derbyshire and Staffordshire countryside, it is little surprise that this prime location has a far reaching history. The lands use, on which Tutbury Castle stands, dates back to 1071 and the Castle is best known for being one of 4 prisons where Mary, Queen of Scots spent time incarcerated. The Castle, over it’s history has also been seiged, destroyed and partially rebuilt several times and now belongs to the Duchy of Lancaster.
Hauntings at Tutbury Castle
By night Tutbury Castle takes on an eerie presence. The back drop of the ruins provide a sense of spooky isolation…..this location holds so much history it is little surprise that Tutbury is on the haunted list. Many visitors have reported sighting a white lady, is this the apparition of Mary, Queen of Scots? Ghostly soldier figures have also been reported around the grounds and on investigating the Castle, many unexplained disembodied voices have been captured along with strange phenomenon appearing on camera.
