Ghost Hunt Leicester Guildhall

Do you fancy a night in Leicester’s oldest police cell? Or would you prefer to investigate the old library which, last time we investigated, captured EVP evidence relating to the open bible where staff have reported that pages seem to turn mysteriously on their own overnight? Or would you rather stay close to the team in the Great hall with its haunted staircase taking part in traditional vigils?!

The Guildhall in historic Leicester, was built around 1390 and is located in the old walled city on Guildhall Lane. The Guildhall is a Grade I listed timber framed building, once the towns meeting place for banquets and festivals (William Shakespeare appeared here) as well as the home of a priest. The Guildhall also functioned as the Cities Town Hall until 1876. Back in 1632 The Guildhall became established as a library (the third oldest library in England). Leicester’s first police force had its station here from 1836 and the police cells still exist today.

We found The Guildhall not only fascinating historically to visit but it definitely had some strange paranormal activity when we were last there.

Event Review

Thank you to all those who joined Haunted Evenings in our home town last night at the Leicester Guildhall! As much as the festive break was lovely, it was fabulous to get 2020 rolling event wise and what better place than an old faithful haunt of ours!

Throughout the evening activity was reported back in various parts of the building. A particular hotspot appeared to be the old library (3rd oldest in England) where our music boxes detected movement in the side room on 2 separate occasions, often responding on command. EVP’s from here suggest a male presence with muffled voices captured suggesting “murdered him” and “can’t hear the message”.

Down in the old Police holding cells, whilst EMF spikes were dismissed as being explainable and the ouija board wasn’t forthcoming, EVP’s once again suggested a spirit or spirits were present, implying they wished to get out. Again, muffled and not clear enough to upload but fascinating as these similar EVP’s were captured by both groups (unbeknownst to each other).

Haunted Evenings headed to their hometowns historic quarter last night to investigate the Leicester Guildhall, the oldest building in town! Every accessible inch of this Grade 1 listed Tudor building was covered and every vigil style was conducted to coax out the spirits that reside there. The results were simply quite phenomenal!

3 groups took on the challenge of conducting 4 vigils over the course of the evening, 2 traditional and 2 equipment based. Here are just some of the highlights :

Cells : Downstairs at street level, vigil one soon gathered pace when K2 meters detected shifts in energy (EMF) which seemed to respond on command when we asked spirit to bring their energy forward. A cracking class A EVP was captured that, on review, we believe says “The Name”. A further EVP from directly inside the old cell states, faintly but clearly “let me out” when a team member asked “would you like us to let you out?”

EVP “The Name”

EVP “Let me out now”

Great Hall : Human Pendulums and dowsing rod experiments were fruitful for all groups, with many guests detecting energy spots in the same part of this magnificent old tudor hall. Personal connections were made for some of the guests in more than one of the groups.

Library : The 3rd oldest library in the country was home to our equipment last night as well the cells beneath. K2s spiked for one group believed to be the spirit of a man. During an EVP session we captured a spirit counting to 7. Was this the same male that, for the immediate group that followed spoke into our recorder and said “(Simon) Get out of here” followed by a “get back…..properly”

EVP “(Simon) Get out of here!”

All additional EVP’s mentioned are over on Instagram

Thank you to all the guests who attended last nights Haunted Evening. Your willingness to participate and persevere certainly paid off! Thanks also to the team who made another night at the Leicester Guildhall such a cracking one!

A full house at the Leicester Guildhall again on Saturday for our return visit (last here April ’17) and despite the freezing temperatures, a great night was had by all! We livestreamed part of a vigil, for our Facebook followers, up in the old Library (see above) which shows spirit interaction through our EMF devices.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Haunted Evenings hometown at this very treasured Leicester site. We shall be back!
