History of Oliver Cromwell’s House
Other than Hampton Court Palace, this 13th Century timber framed building is the only remaining property which was once the former home of Oliver Cromwell who lived here from 1636. The building originally served as the vicarage to the nearby Church of St Mary’s. Post Cromwell, the building also served as a pub for part of it’s history. The building is now the Ely Tourist Office and is made up of 8 period rooms depicting the life of Cromwell. Entering through the dark panelled parlour, guests have several rooms to investigate, some supposedly more active than others, you will take an active part in discovering which of the rooms are the most haunted……
Paranormal Activity at Cromwell’s House
Previous investigations and employee accounts stack up to an impressive list of paranormal occurrences at Cromwell’s House. Staff often feel uneasy when walking alone through the aptly named “Haunted Bedroom” and it is here where many have felt the presence of someone….. is this Cromwell himself? Light phenomenon have been captured in the Exhibition room and Parlour along with interesting cold spots recorded in the study. parlour and exhibition room. Others have reported sensing a male ghostly figure in the kitchen, possibly that of a servant stood near to the fireplace. Several accounts suggest this location can be extremely active and all guests brave enough to spend a lock down in this famous Cambridgeshire haunted house will be encouraged to take part and hopefully experience for themselves the paranormal activities that others have often experienced.
