The Towers Hospital was formerly the first of the then “Mental Asylum’s” to be built in England to improve the mental health care in the 1800’s. Prior to this, only pauper houses existed which effectively locked away community members who had mental health issues. Hospitals like The Towers, were built throughout England to aid the treatment of such patients. However, with very barbaric treatments such as electric shock treatment, care was far from what it is today. Join Haunted Evenings as we take you on an access all areas tour/ Ghost Hunt at this former hospital. With countless reports of haunted activity here, be warned, this location is no walk in the park! Ghost Hunts Mental Asylums | Abandoned Hospitals
Ghost hunting at former mental hospitals is becoming increasingly popular. This is mainly due to the rarity of such abandoned places. Most hospitals have either been converted into private homes or office developments, many have been the victim to vandalism and since been demolished. The more research done, sadly the more you realise that these magnificent Victorian buildings with such stunning architecture are no longer with us.
Only two Mental Asylums from the 1800’s are open to the ghost hunting public in their original state. Newsham Park Hospital, Liverpool and The Towers Hospital, Leicester. Step inside both historic buildings and you are immediately transported to a different time. Much of the original fabric of the buildings remain as they would have been when they were in full use as hospitals. Hospital bed areas and medical equipment can still be found in amongst the vast psychiatric wards. The corridors are eerily silent, dark and foreboding places. It’s hard not to sense the history attached to such buildings.
